The third weekend of RCF Arena Summer was always going to close hard. We've been working on this booking for ten months. Today we can finally tell you what we've been holding back: Ye headlines the closing night, 18 July at RCF Arena, and it is the only confirmed European date of his summer.
The set is being designed in collaboration with the production team that built the opening of the European tour. We can't yet say who is opening — that's coming next Tuesday — but we can tell you the runway is long, the production is unlike anything Reggio Emilia has hosted, and the closing fireworks are timed to a single beat.
Why this date, and why this place
RCF Arena is a 103,000-capacity outdoor amphitheater designed end-to-end by an Italian audio company that has been making sound systems for seventy years. The arena's PA was tuned, mic-ed and mapped specifically for sets above 240,000 watts. There are five other venues in Europe that can host an act of this scale, and four of them are stadiums with concrete acoustics. The Arena is grass and sky.
"We didn't program the closing night to be the loudest. We programmed it to be the cleanest at maximum volume. There is a difference, and you'll hear it from row 800."
That's our head of audio, who has been refining the rig with the venue's in-house team since November. The brief was simple: the back row of a 103,000-person crowd should hear the kick drum with the same definition as the front pit. After three test events earlier this spring, we think we've got there.
What the night looks like
Doors at 16:00. Warm-ups from 17:30. Special guests — to be announced 9 May — between 19:00 and 22:00. Ye on stage at 22:30. We expect the set to run to 00:30, followed by the closing fireworks and a short EDM closing set on the second stage to walk you out gently.
The shuttle service to Reggio Emilia AV station runs every 8 minutes between 23:30 and 03:00 on this date. Last train to Bologna leaves at 02:32. The official tent area on Via Antonio Marro (book via ParkForFun) is open through the morning of 19 July if you'd rather not move.
